Dune: Spice Wars Wiki

Authority is one of the principle resources in Dune: Spice Wars and also acts as an indication of how well a particular faciton is doing within the game. At its core, Authority represents the overall leadership and reach a faction holds over the regions of Arrakis. Authority is used to take control of Villages.

Description[edit | edit source]

Authority can be used to give an overall indication of how well a particular faciton is doing throughout the game. Getting more Authority during gameplay generally means you are performing well, and Authority is a prerequisite for numerous actions in the game, such as taking control of Villages.

Players can use Authority to expand their territory, which will stabilize the nature of gameplay. Villages cost Authority to take control of them, but each subsequent Village that a player wishes to take control of will cost more Authority, but also more Water. Base Authority gain when starting out is +4, but this can be increased through several different means:

  • Agents that infiltrate Arrakis will increase base Authority; it is useful to remember that at one time a player can have three Agents completing missions, so use them wisely.
  • Maintaining negative relations with other factions will also gain a boost in Authority. If a player wishes to go down this route for a quick Authority boost, they can start fighting with other factions straight away.
  • Builiding the Administrative Hall will boost Authority production by a factor of 30%. Otherwise, try voting in resolutions within the Landsraad, which will also give an Authority boost.

Capturing Villages[edit | edit source]

As stated, each subsequent Village that a faction takes control of costs additional resources. Authority is calculated using the following variables:

  • The base value is 20 Authority.
  • Distance from the base also plays a part, with Villages further from the base costing more.
  • Number of controlled Villages is the most important. More Villages means more Authority required.
  • Additionally, a player may incur additional penalties for Special Regions.
